Babcock International Delivers H175s Helicopters Down Under
Babcock International recently had a ceremony in Darwin, Australia to commemorate the introduction of two new Airbus H175 Helicopters. The first to be introduced to the southern half of the globe. While the ceremony was held in Australia, the two helicopters will be stationed in the little town of Dill, Timor Leste, located just north of Darwin. These two helicopters will mostly be used for search and rescue missions as well as transportation of important personnel
The helicopters arrived together, after traveling on a cargo plane and entered service on January 1st, 2018. Airbus has been very hands-on through this whole process and has helped Babcock teach twenty-seven pilots as well as engineers the ins and outs of these helicopters. Nineteen more people will be hired to work on base as support. Along with these nineteen men and women, at least four engineers from local areas will be present at a training event at the Airbus Helicopter headquarters in Marignane, France.
Babcock went over many helicopter options before deciding to partner with Airbus and employ the H175’s. The final call was made based on the H175’s past performance. By adding the two new helicopters, the southern hemisphere will be able to up their performance by transporting 9,000 individuals and nearly 30 tons of material each year.
These two helicopters stationed in the Timor Sea, mark the fourth water based lodging for this model. Airbus H175’s are also located in the Gulf of Mexico, Western Africa, and the North Sea.
