Broadcom Ltd. Successfully Bids On Toshiba Ltd. Memory Business
The semiconductor company by the name of Broadcom and its associates have prepared themselves for the biggest expansions their company has ever seen. Broadcom has teamed up a private US equity firm, Silver Lake Partners to be place a bid of an approximate 2.2 trillion yen which calculates to be 20 billion US dollars. There has been speculation that Japanese Gov. would have preferred to have a US company bid this appose to a country like South Korea, China or Taiwan.
Broadcom has made a strong decision by progressing without most of its former associates.
“Foxconn with the potential support of Apple; rival memory maker SK Hynix of South Korea; a Japanese-US consortium linked to the state-backed Innovation Network Corp. of Japan; and Western Digital.”
According to
Toshiba sources it is said to be able have put its memory division up for bid due to a massive write down from their nuclear power business.
Broadcom specializes in creating and manufacturing chips that are used for communications such as semiconductors, controllers, ICs, Embedded and Network Processors and much more.
If the Broadcom bid does follow through they are to venture out into a what is known as the non – volatile memory market. Along with much of their newly integrated material they will be able to drive their way to consumer electronics such as NAND flash that can be found in tablets, wearable electronics and smart phones used today.
Along with the bid there have been some issues that arose with the request of the bid.
Western Digital which has been a long partner of Toshiba is claiming that it was not notified or giving the chance to be able to refuse the bid. It was processed without their approval and therefore Western is placing a law suit under breach of contract to restrain Toshiba from selling the memory division.
